Islamabad Rally Clash Live: A rally was held in Islamabad today on Sunday (8 September) in support of the release of jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan. This rally took a violent turn when Imran supporters and the police clashed with each other. The situation deteriorated so much that the police had to open fire, in which many people died.
Earlier, stone pelting took place in which many personnel including police officers were injured. Police had to use tear gas to control the situation. On the matter, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhary said that the police have killed Imran Khan’s supporters. At the same time, Nawaz Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz said that Imran’s supporters are spreading anarchy in the country and the government will not be afraid of anyone.
Amidst all this, the army’s neutral stance has been seen. The army distanced itself from this incident and expressed surprise. Meanwhile, jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Sunday that he is ready to spend his entire life in jail, but will not compromise on his struggle for ‘Haqiqi Azadi’ (real freedom).
Imran has completed 400 days in jail. Former cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan’s (71) Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party on Sunday organised a rally in Islamabad to pressurise the government for his release from jail. Imran was arrested on August 5 last year after being convicted in the Toshakhana corruption case.
Senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Asghar Gujjar said on Sunday, “Today Imran Khan has completed 400 days in jail, but the ruling party could not break his resolve for real freedom. The whole country is standing behind him and he will soon come out of jail.”
